March For Our Lives
The movement's goals
|
They advocate for change by organizing demonstrations nationwide and having survivors of gun violence speak out and use their voice to spread awareness.
Their mottos "We want change!", "Generation Lockdown!" are clear examples of their fight for a safe and gun-free youth.
This picture compares two different epidemics in recent US history. The first is a picture of artist and AIDS activist David Wojnarowicz in 1988. He blames the FDA (Food and Drug administration) disregard for the AIDS epidemic that was extremely present in the gay community during the beginning of the 1980s.
Here, the iconic phrase is used by students during the March for Our Lives demonstrations in 2018 replacing "AIDS" by "school shooting" and "FDA" by "NRA". The NRA is the National Rifle Association, it advocates for gun rights, one of the most powerful lobbies in the US. Its influence on the government, more precisely the republican party is a reason why there are basically no changes to gun laws. The NRA has funded around 70 million dollars into the republican party in the 2016 election. With the NRA being this powerful, and gun regulation inexistent, we cannot wait for change even with movements like March For Our Lives and children will keep dying in school shootings. If change is going to happen, it would be with the fall of the NRA.
Very well done overall.
